New Ventura ACS/ARES Check-In Template for Winlink

There is a new custom Winlink template to be used for weekly ACS/ARES check-ins. When checking in, send your Winlink Message to: winlink@vccomm.org. It will be automatically processed and if everything looks good, you should receive an email confirmation to your Winlink address within 10 minutes.

You can download the template via This Link

Once unzipped, place all three template files (not the “Instructions” directory or this file) in your “RMS Express\Global Folders\Templates\” directory and you will see the new template under the the “Global” list.

Restart Winlink and you should be set. If you have questions, feel free to contact Stu Sheldon-AG6AG at stu@ag6ag.org.

“Did You Feel It” and the “Great California ShakeOut”

Over the last few weeks a group of VC ACS/ARES members have been working to get on the air using Winlink on HF and VHF.  This is to prepare for a “ShakeOut” exercise on Oct 17.

We have our next Zoom meeting this Wednesday, September 9, at 7 p.m. where we’ll review the simulated earthquake scenario, how to complete the DYFI form, test results using Winlink under conditions of low power and  discuss a VHF comms exercise as part of the ShakeOut event.

If you would like to join us there is still ample time to get on the air using Winlink and participate in the ShakeOut. If you are not ready to work digital ops just yet, the VHF comms exercise is simplex phone and may be more to your liking.

The Zoom meeting details maybe found  at this link:

New Closures in Ventura County

Following new State guidance, Ventura County will close indoor operations for certain sectors which promote the mixing of populations beyond households and make adherence to physical distancing with face coverings difficult. The following sectors may only operate outdoor operations with appropriate modifications, including physical distancing and face coverings: Dine-in Restaurants, Family Entertainment Centers, Zoos and Museums. In addition, all brewpubs, breweries, bars, pubs, wineries and tasting rooms must close indoor and outdoor operations. Movie theaters and cardrooms are not allowed to operate at this time. The closures will last for at least three weeks. Read the latest updates on Ventura County orders.
